Is this another war protest? No! Its Chanel this season fashion show in Paris. Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel held a feminist protest but with style. It was led by Cara Delevingne holding the megaphone, all bearing placards with slogans including "HeForShe", "History is her story" and "Make fashion not war" (some of these were later seen written on the label’s iconic bags).
As has been the theme of many of the SS15 shows, the collection has its roots in the seventies, an era, of course, synonymous with anti-war protests and the growth of the women’s rights movement. The catwalk was awash with psychedelic watercolour prints and peace symbols (entwined with the Chanel double C logo) and the trouser shape for spring: the flare. They reminded us that freedom should be free and that girls should dare to be different.
Yet, through all the shouting and drama, to Lagerfeld’s credit, it was still the clothes that made the most noise.
